Feeding Program
Quality pasture and forage are the basis of Climbing Stump Farm's feeding program. A mixture of cool and warm season grasses, along with chicory, brassicas and clovers make up the pastures. Additionally, aspen, willow and an assortment of other deciduous trees and brush are browsed by the cattle in areas that are being converted into pasture. The pastures are grazed in a rotational grazing system using portable electric fencing. In this system the cattle are moved frequently, most often on a daily basis. During the colder months the cattle are left out in the pastures where they are fed grass and legume hay. Shelter is provided in wooded areas.

Climbing Stump cattle are not fed grain. However, Climbing Stump farm supplements its weanlings, show cattle and older animals that are in need of additional energy with soy hulls at a rate of less than 1% of body weight per day. Additionally, Climbing Stump cattle have free choice access to a loose mineral mix and salt.
